Lights On Afterschool 2009

Lights On 2009 - October 22, 2009

The 10th annual Lights On Afterschool celebration will be held October 22, 2009 and afterschool advocates across the state are busy planning events, rallies and celebrations. Want to host an event? Visit our Lights On resources page for ideas and tips. Want to attend an event? Search for events in your area.

Register your event to win!

GAIC wants to make 2009 a banner year for afterschool so we have set a goal of 200 events across the state. Help us meet this goal by hosting an event in your community. Make sure to register your event to be entered into a drawing to win a free registration to to an upcoming Georgia Afterschool Insititute.

Engage Local Officials

To build momentum for the GAIC and Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Statewide Municipal Summit on Afterschool on January 22, 2010, we encourage you to involve mayors and municipal officials in your Lights On celebration this year. Here are some ideas:

  • Ask your mayor to issue a proclamation supporting afterschool.
  • Invite your mayor and city councilmembers to your Lights On event.
  • Have your children write letters or draw pictures about your afterschool program and deliver them to your mayor and city councilmembers.
