Every child and youth in Georgia should have access to high-quality, affordable afterschool and summer opportunities within their community that incorporate youth development principles; improve academic achievement and social, emotional and physical development; and minimize risky behaviors, thus leading to positive youth outcomes.
Principles
The afterschool system in Georgia will support the following principles:
- All children and youth, no matter geography, family income level, ethnicity, native language, ability or other personal characteristics have access to quality afterschool programs.
- Afterschool programs are of high-quality and are comprehensive.
- Afterschool programs are affordable to families.
- Afterschool programs maximize positive youth outcomes and minimize risky behaviors.
- Afterschool programs are supported by strong public leadership from families, communities and the highest levels of businesses and government.
- Afterschool programs foster opportunities for youth to prepare themselves for the 21st century economy and becoming contributing citizens.
