The Current State of Afterschool in Georgia: Building a Strong FoundationGAIC, with generous funding from the Children and Youth Coordinating Council (CYCC), developed of the first statewide report to provide a critical scan of programs and unearth key issues that impact afterschool youth development opportunities.
The Current State of Afterschool in Georgia - Building a Strong Foundation is a first step towards created a coordinated infrastructure to support excellent afterschool options for children and families across the state. To download a copy of the report, please click here.
The report outlines a vision for afterschool in Georgia created by over 40 partner organizations representing the non-profit, public, foundation, and higher education institutional communities. It identifies major afterschool providers and programs in the state, and begins to look at gaps between what is and what should be available to children and families. It also looks at how quality is defined and assessed in Georgia’s afterschool programs, and how programs are funded across the state.
This report is just a start. Georgia has a long way to go to make the vision for afterschool a reality. The Afterschool Action Agenda within the report outlines some of our next steps, which include:
