Spotlight (1)

By Sarina Marsh, MSW Intern

This week, GSAN is spotlighting some of the amazing afterschool programs around Georgia in honor of Lights on Afterschool. Today’s spotlight program is Girls, Inc.’s afterschool program located in Marietta.

Since 1976, Girls, Inc. of Greater Atlanta has provided enriching programs that cater to the needs of girls. Located in Marietta, Girls, Inc.’s afterschool program covers a wide range of topics including education, health, body image and confidence for K-8 girls. Partnering with Kennesaw State University, Girls, Inc. also emphasizes the importance of STEM education to the girls it serves, a population so often underrepresented in STEM careers.

In its 40th year, Girls, Inc. of Greater Atlanta celebrates Lights On Afterschool with a program showcase. Join the organization on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 5:00 – 6:30 PM., and learn about the program, meet community members, program participants and their families. Representative Stacey Evans, Senator Michael Rhett, and Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin are expected to attend. Stay tuned for the recap of the event next week!
