Join the Georgia Statewide Afterschool Network (GSAN) for the inaugural Brews for Afterschool event benefiting Georgia’s afterschool programs. It promises to be a festive evening, offering guests an opportunity to play hands-on afterschool-style games and activities, while enjoying delicious food and beverages.
Why Afterschool is Important
Afterschool programs are more than just a safe place; the programs help children develop social-emotional, physical and academic skills in a fun and engaging environment. More time spent in afterschool is associated with better work habits, improved academic performance, improved GPA and fewer school absences. Additionally, nearly 1 in 5 of Georgia’s youth are alone and unsupervised between the hours of 3 and 6 PM, the peak hours for juvenile crime and experimentation with risky behaviors.
About GSAN
GSAN supports over 1,000 afterschool, before school and summer learning programs across Georgia. GSAN assists programs in implementing quality standards and offers in-person and online trainings for providers to ensure that students have an enriching, high quality experience. GSAN increases access by making parents aware of programs in their community through their interactive online map and working closely with government agencies to improve and expand services. Children in underserved communities are of particular focus, and GSAN offers scholarship programs, such as the summer Zero Robotics initiative.
