Afterschool and summer learning programs offer youth the opportunity to build quality relationships with adults and peers. Youth are able to develop trusting relationships with caring and supportive mentors and learn from their examples, while engaging in positive peer interaction that allows them to learn how to reach consensus and work collaboratively. Afterschool and summer learning programs help social-emotional development through these relationships and allow youth to participate more fully in the school day and fulfill their academic potential.
